June 2016 Featured Artist
City Lights Art Gallery is proud to announce our featured artist for the month of June, award-winner Bob O’Neill. There will be a reception at the gallery on Sunday, June 12th from 1 to 4 pm.
Mr. O’Neill has been painting in oil for over 40 years. He calls his work semi-realism because he does not paint every leaf or blade of grass, however O’Neill makes the viewer believe they are seeing the image first hand.
Whether landscapes seascapes or animal life, his artwork has a vibrancy that captures the imagination without exception. He uses light and shadow to create remarkable depth. He is brilliant at creating the soft, warm light on the water at day’s end or the cold, crisp starkness of a winter morning.
Raised on the east coast, O’Neill enjoyed countless hours of gazing out to sea or
capturing boats in the harbor on his sketchpad. An air force career led him to Europe, where in 1964 he won the title of “Top Amateur Artist of France”. The beauty of the desert and surrounding mountains eventually led him to Las Vegas and to the “Old LYME Art Academy”, painting with great artists such as Len Tantillo and Christopher Blossom.
Bob is a member of the American Society of Marine Artists (ASMA) that is connected to
the Smithsonian. He has also been an exhibitor at one of Oregon’s most prestigious art museums in Coo’s Bay.
City Lights Art Gallery has been incredibly fortunate that O’Neill shares his talent and knowledge by conducting classes in oil on Monday mornings at the gallery. He believes the best way a beginning artist can learn the craft is to paint with an experienced artist. Please call City Lights at 702.260.0300 for more information
More of Bob O’Neill’s work can be found at www.RobertEmmettOneill.com.
In addition to the reception on Sunday, June 12th from 1 to 4 pm, his work will be on display throughout the month of June.
May 2016 Featured Artist
Patricia Bason’s exhibit ,“ALLURE” will be featured at her reception on SUN. MAY 15th, 1–4 pm at the Gallery (concurrent with Arts & Eats).
Patricia Bason began in New York as a commercial artist chasing deadlines with sketches of summer dresses and silk pajamas. She has painted in California, Virginia, Texas, and is a recent transplant to Nevada where the palm trees, the Strip's mix of gaudy and elegant, and the underlying sense of mystery have captured her imagina-tion. She is currently painting in oils and moving from the traditional realism of the Dutch Masters to the vibrancy of contemporary design.
When asked what attracts her to a painting, Bason replied, “Typically, strong colors and dramatic contrasts catch my attention. Impact is also a factor. Elegant land-scapes calm me down, and clever people scenes leave me smiling. What truly pulls me back, however, are the paintings that have an under-stated element, a sense of mystery. You can feel an al-lure that’s silent, hidden, and yet almost tangible.”
